Hue Scintillator App Reviews

I have to agree with many of the other reviewers. Many of the light control apps on the store make big promises about their features and capabilities but they fail to live up to their claims. Scintillator is by far the best and most useful of the apps I have bought for my hue lights. (It is the fifth one i tried) definitely go with this one.

Eventually got them all working though and love it!

If you want seamless animations using a large selection of presets or create one of your own, this is your app. Simple,elegant. Gorgeous color variations to just zone out or set to your favorite party mix. Animations run after your phone has gone to sleep.

Im using this in my living room. The really subtle color shifts make it great for relaxing without making it look like a nightclub. Really well-designed UI as well. Keep up the great work!

I downloaded over a half dozen apps to control my Hue lights and this is the only app I use. I am in full control of all lights, strips & blooms. You can customize so much to make it a better experience as well. I would recommend this app to any Hue bulb user. 5 star app.

Hue Disco is better for a party but this it better for setting color schemes. The update says bulbs change color instantly but they dont. I set the themes to link all bulbs together but they still are a few seconds off

this app really shows what the hue can do. Very impressive colors! And with the new update its extremely responsive. Absolutely one of the best

Just wish I could play music over Bluetooth at the same time.

New user. Ive tried 1/2 dozen apps, none GREAT till this one. I wont even open the other now, especially not the Phillips Hue app which is essentially useless. I absolutely love the total RICHNESS of this app. Wish Id not purchased the others and this one is the most affordable too. Go figure.

One of the least user friendly app I have ever used. The app needs to stay on in the background no matter what you do which consumes a lot of power. The service interferes with AirPlay which is my reason for not using the app. Lets just say dont buy it. Theres potential but I havent seen any updates.

I like to change my lights almost daily to coincide with holidays (think Empire State) this app lets me do that easily and with great animations. I run it on a dedicated iPhone and even if the lights are turned of from a timer, they pick right back up with the current theme of the app is still running. [EDIT: IT APPEARS IS IF THE APP LOSES COMMUNICATION WITH BULBS THAT ARE TURNED OFF FOR A ERIOD OF TIME. WHEN THE LIGHTS COME BACK ON YOU NEED TO REOPEN THE APP TO CONTINUE RUNNING A SCENE. NOT SURE IF THIS IS A LIMITATION OF THE APP, OR HUE LIGHTS, BUT IT WOULD BE NICE IF THE SCENE RAN AUTOMATICALLY. I’LL HAVE TO TEST IF I LEAVE THE BULBS ON IF THEY WILL RUN THE SCENE FOR MORE THAN 24HOURS.] Minor things Id like to see added by the developer. A visualizer that can be exported from the app to display a design on a website or social media. A collection/DB where users can share designs besides email. (This would work best with the visualizer feature)

This is one of the best hue apps Ive tried. I love that I can create my own scenes. My only critique is that whenever Im using the app and its running in the background the notification bar stays red and I dont think thats necessary, its kind of annoying actually. Also support for spotify/soundcloud would seal the deal for me. I would love to have it go along with my music but I dont use the stock music app.

. . . cause the app lacks sufficient instructions, ie, what is shuffle? Otherwise, great app.

Update: The app is once again working for Lifx. I still have to spend some time with the app to truly get to know it but Im updating my review to reflect that it is working. Im only giving 3 stars so far due to it not having a notification widget and an on/off toggle, it has an off at the top of the app but no on making you scroll to bottom of the page if the desired effect you last turned off is located there. Interface is simple and aesthetically pleasing, and the app is a solid 4-4.5 with above additions.

I bought this app because one of the screen caps showed a CIE diagram with the hue gamut. Ive been looking for an app that will let me accurately produce CIE specified colors. This is NOT it. Waste of money. This app lets you drag the pointer all the way to the spectrum locus in the green, well outside of the gamut triangle, and the Hue is not capable of making those colors. Whatever else it does to make your lights flash, the technical side of this is inaccurate.

Scintillator allows the most control and options when it comes to creating your own dynamic lighting recipes. I was even able to recreate the scenes from the defunct Goldee app. Being able to sort the recipes into pages would be helpful, as scrolling through one long list can be cumbersome. Add a page sort feature and maybe a widget, and this would be five stars.

This app will not connect to hue bridge no matter what I try. Do not waste you time.
